From the Fast User Switching menu, clicked on "Login Window..." to leave user logged in and processes running unattended, but Beyond Compare stopped work until I logged in again. For a very large job (>4TB folder comparison/copy taking >10 hours, estimated), the user had to be left logged in, power saving disabled, no screen-saver, etc., which is a security nightmare given that the main administrator account was logged in with full permissions (during a server migration).
Beyond Compare V4.1.3 (b. 20814) stops work at Fast User Switching's Login Window

Did you reboot at all between tests? Or close and restart the Beyond Compare application? It either the machine or BC might have been in a bad state and a quick restart helped kick it. Also, which version of OSX were you running BC4 on?Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment

Yes, there definitely was a reboot. The Mac (OS X 10.10.5, drat I have to update!) has been crashing during the night while running large (multi-TB) copy operations from an old netatalk server to a new netatalk server with Open Directory authentication/authorization. The last crash report is:

Thanks for that follow-up. Setting up a test environment was proving time intensive, as was finding a suitably large test transfer on our own network. Smaller transfers were insufficient to provoke the instability. If you see any other issues crop up, please do let us know.Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment
