    Launching Compares from Path Finder

    This is an FYI ...

According to the following post, an upcoming version of Path Finder (6.1.6) will be adding the ability to launch a diff between selected files and folders. It looks like PF can be setup to execute files at "/usr/local/bin", so this should include Beyond Compare 4, once the Command Line Tools are installed.

On a side note, the "Select Left File for Compare" and "Compare Files" menu items that appear on Finder's context menu (under "Services") are not showing up in Path Finder.

    again

I use also Path Finder. Is there a possibility to change compare... in services menu from finder app to any app because iĀ“service menu for bc work in finder only. If You use an other app like Path Finder there are no bc entries in service menu.

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. We've got quite a bit of development on our plate, but I'll open a tracker entry to investigate Path Finder compatibility. I believe we store the scripts in a fairly general location to get them on the Services menu; do any other applications have their entries in the Path Finder Services menu?

Yes applications like OpenPGP or Teamviewer have entries in Path Finder Services menu.

Path Finder 6 now has functionality to spawn a compare from the context menu, but it doesn't use the Services submenu.

Instead, modify PF6 Preferences, select the File Comparison tab, and then select the command line tool for BC4.

It works really well. You just select a pair of files or a pair of folders, right click to make the context menu appear, and then click "Compare..."

The compare menu item will only appear when you have TWO files or TWO folders selected. Any other combination prevents the menu item from appearing.

The only downside is that the functionality only works within a single pane. If you have dual panes visible in PF4, you cannot spawn a compare by selecting a single folder in each pane.

EDIT: Of course, if we could get nice "left compare" and "right compare" Service menu items, that would allow us to select a file or folder and then jump to the second pane or even navigate elsewhere in the file system to locate the item to add to the comparison.
