Compare 2 .txt or .xls Files of Names in Mixed Order to Find Duplicates

    Hello,

I am trying to compare 2 files (can be of any type - .txt, .csv, .xls) of computer names (text) to find duplicates (same name in each file). The names in each file may be in different order.

This seems like a simple thing to do but I can't figure out how to do it.

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Hello,

This will depend on the structure of your files. Are they all in roughly CSV or XLS format (comma delimited?)

If so, you can open them in our Data Compare session type and set the Key to the column with your names. This will sort by the Key, placing all entries of the same name next to each other. Normally, Keys are meant to be unique, so they may not align the specific rows in the order you expect.

If you are still having trouble, it would help if you sent in a pair of example files to [email protected]. Please also include:
    - Your BCSupport.zip from the Help menu -> Support; Export
    - a link back to this forum post
    - A description or screenshot of your current comparison and how you would like to compare it.
