    13298 File qty discrepancy

This Show All comparison finds 66322 files on each side

Fine. But Show Differences with Suppress Filters shows eight more files on left side:

    Any idea why?

    Not offhand.

Try selecting Show All with Suppress Filters, and see if any items are colored teal, or if the count changes.

That shows eight items coloured teal - excluded by file attribute filter. So that's the explanation - thanks.

Is there a way of identifying such items quicker than eye and one thousand Page Downs?

There isn't a filter that will limit the display to just filtered items.

In some cases, you can select a collapsed folder, then use a command line "Actions > Compare Contents" and click the "Show hidden items" button, but it doesn't work in all cases.

If I'm using a simple filename filter, like "-*.bak", I usually just flip the filter around to "*.bak" if I want to track what I'm filtering out.

Am I right in believing flip is not possible in cases such as this?

If you have a file attribute filter, such as "Read-only: Exclude if set", you can temporarily change it to "Exclude if not set". Is that what you mean?

I have "Exclude protected operating system files (Recommended)"

There isn't a way to invert that filter, so no, a "flip" isn't possible in that case.

OK, that's interesting because then I guess, unlike in Explorer, in BC "protected operating system files" does not equate to "system and hidden" (which is flippable).

So... what attributes does it equate to, please?

It does relate to system and hidden, although it excludes protected folders as well, so there's not a precise inverse. Unchecking the option and setting "Exclude if not set" for system and hidden files would be close though.

                        Thanks.

OK, though I don't understand why there couldn't be an inverse.

                        It was close.

                        Thanks.

Aside from "Exclude protected...", none of the "Other filters" affect folders. If we changed that behavior then inverting the filter would be trivial, but until then it's not supported.

Ah, I'd missed the fact that "Exclude protected operating system files (Recommended)" secretly excludes folders also.

                            Thanks for the clarification.
