12204 Nine "There is no disk in the drive." on removable disc

If I open a workspace containing a Folder Compare session with one side addressing a folder on a removable disk drive slot having no disc, I get the a dialog

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk3\DR6.

nine times (!), before the expected "Folder not available" dialog.

PS Also, upon Exiting, I get one of these dialogs.

Hello Chris, I've tested opening a workspace containing a saved session pointing to:
A USB flash card reader offering multiple drive letters
A PCMCIA card reader
A zip drive (connected w/o disc, and disconnected).

Each time, I get our "Folder Not Available" dialog once, which can be canceled.

I believe this issue may be specific to either the hardware or a specific software on your machine causing a conflict. We would need more information in order to recreate this scenario in the office. Do you have multiple devices that can be "not ready" to test with? Do you have multiple computers that exhibit the same issue?

Multiple external devices that can be in the "not ready" state that cause the non-Beyond Compare dialogs to pop-up. We have just one dialog: "Folder Not Available" that then presents the options of Create, Retry, and Cancel.

And do you mean No, you don't have multiple computers, or No, you have tried to replicate the problem with the device that causes the issue on another machine but it does not have the same pop-up?

Ah, so you're sayign the "There is no disk in the drive." is not a BC dialog?

Check LOG config

For anyone else that may stumble upon this thread, I was seeing a similar dialog box every time I compared folders, from 3 to 10 times. Finally traced it to the Beyond Compare LOG FILE option, which was pointing to a no-longer-mounted drive.

Tools -> Options... -> Folder Views / Log

Was the (un)mounted drive still present in Windows Explorer with a drive letter? If it was a location that was available but unavailable, that could explain that type of error message. I've seen a similar Windows error trying to access a SD Card reader that always presented itself as a drive letter, even if there was no card present to be read from.
