    Overruling decimal symbol

Will it be possible to overrule the decimal symbol in Beyond Compare itself? The same way as this is possible in MS Excel when using the "Advanced Text Import Settings" in "Text-to-Columns".

This because we (in The Netherlands) use a comma (instead of a point .) as a decimal symbol. This decimal comma is a visual "thing". Therefore als BC2 takes the Regional Settings into account. To complicate things; our data files however don't have the decimal comma but have a decimal point. For us to use the tool in the correct way we would need to change our regional settings to English each time we use BC, because of these data files. If we could overrule the decimal symbol in BC this would solve this problem.

P.S. This change would then of course also have to "feed through" to the/tolerance/ field.

    Re: Overruling decimal symbol

    Thanks for the suggestion.

This still isn't included in Beyond Compare's Data Viewer plug-in. We do have this on our wish list to be included in a future version (it looks like you mentioned this by email in June of 2006).

Hi Chris (hope you're still there?),

We have now upgraded to version 4, but we were sad to see that there still is no way to change the decimal symbol (like in Excel) to accomodate CVS files that have a decimal point where we have our decimal symbol set to a comma in our regional settings. Changing our regional settings solves this issue, but causes a lot of hassle with our other systems.

Would this be something we could be expecting soon?

      Kind regards,
      Ramon Besseling

        Hi Ramon,

This manually setting the decimal symbol instead of following regional settings is on our todo list for a future version of BC4.

Beyond Compare 3.3.13's Data Compare actually supports manually setting the decimal symbol, it was accidentally removed from BC4.

To manually set the decimal symbol in BC 3.3.13's Data Compare, click the Format toolbar button. Go to the Type tab. Change "Decimal symbol" from "Use system" to "Period" or "Comma".

You can download version 3.3.13 here:

If you have a license for version 4 and you would like to use version 3, email [email protected] with the 8 digit serial number of your license and we'll send you a free downgrade license for version 3 to use until this feature is added back into version 4. Select "Help > About Beyond Compare" to display your serial number.

I was wondering if you might have an update on this issue? Is this for instance included in BC4.1? If not can you say where this is on your roadmap?

            Hello,

We haven't been able to include it in the current BC 4.1 beta, but it's on our radar. We do not have public dates for our roadmap, but this is an issue we want to tackle.

              Hello,

This has been added to BC 4.1.4. Please update using our Downloads page or the Check for Updates dialog.
