Beyond Compare vs. WinMerge

When saving changes, Beyond Compare seems not to save a backup file, while WinMerge does. This is important, because if you find you make a mistake in merging, you need a way to go back to your original version. It's good practice for the developers to save a backup file on their own, but not everyone does this. Is there a way that Beyond Compare can save a backup file?

Beyond Compare can backup files on Save, it just isn't turned on by default.

To turn on file backup, select Tools|Options from the menu. Go to the Backup section. Check "Backup files before save".
