I find window scrolling to be painfully slow (especially in text comparison windows.) I've been using Beyond Compare on the Mac since it came out (and on Windows for years before that) and only recently came to feel that scrolling is no longer a zippy as it used to be.
Too slow while comparing folder/text file

Thanks for the report. We have had a couple in this thread, but haven't narrowed down the exact causes yet. What hardware configuration are you running? What resolution are you running at; if you decrease it do you see a performance increase?Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment

I've tried disconnecting all external monitors and resetting the built-in retina display to its default resolution. After doing that I also tried quitting a restarting BC4. Nothing helped.

First, back up your settings using the Tools menu -> Export wizard and export everything as a BCSettings.bcpkg. Then try Tools menu -> Restore to Factory Defaults. Fully reboot your machine, and then restart BC4 with a simple text comparison by loading BC4 first, loading a blank text compare, and then loading a pair of plain .txt files into the compare. How does this behave? We can then re-work in your previous workflow or settings a few at a time to try and find the offending culprit.Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment

We've seen some mixed performance reports on scrolling behavior when external displays. Most of our tests and reports are from laptops also using external displays where, somewhat oddly, there are scenarios where the performance is better on an external and worse on internal (laptop), where others are worse on the external but better on the internal. Resolution and DPI are likely factors, as well as the overall BC4 window width and height, though it isn't quite one-to-one, and there are some other factors at play.
We've also seen some potential issues pop-up depending on M1 vs. M1 Max that we're still investigating. We appreciate the extra info, and having multiple monitors of varying resolution is helpful to know.
We're working towards a private technical test of BC5, but in the meantime, I would suggest subscribing to the News and Announcements sub-forum for email notifications. We'll post there as we get ready for a more widespread testing opportunities.Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment

I am also experiencing this choppy scrolling behavior. My configuration is:- Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 64GB RAM
- Single 4k Dell display running at 2560 x 1440.
- Mac OS Ventura 13.2
- Beyond Compare v 4.4.4

Hello,
Please update to BC 4.4.5, which we *just* released, that has some improvements for this behavior. We've had a variety of performance reports, from 'not great' to 'unusable' and 4.4.5's fix seems to help the most users in the more in the extreme cases. It might still feel a little sluggish, but hopefully better, and the overhaul we can do for (our eventual) BC5 should bring significant improvements.
Update: And let us know how 4.4.5 is! We've appreciated the help and broad hardware/OS configurations to help track this down.Aaron P Scooter SoftwareComment
