BC 2.3 build 230 released!

Today we released Beyond Compare version 2.3.

It includes has a long list of enhancements and bugfixes detailed here.

You heard it first here. We'll be emailing this announcement to our mailing list next week.

We also now have a Japanese version! (Thanks to Yoko Ono for finishing up the translation )

For those who had better luck with our "New FTP" beta release, we have a build 6230 with the newer FTP code available here.

Re: BC 2.3 build 230 released!

Hi!

Thanks to the busy scooter crew! A new final after roundabout 9 month .
I think you did a great job, though the wish list may not have shrinked noticeably.

Nevertheless, I will try to push the info of the new release to some german news-sites ...

The application itself looks complete, but studying the cangelog there are some gaps in the documentation:

</font><blockquote><font class="small">In Antwort auf:</font><hr />
- Added support for setting size filters in scripts. The format argument
should be formatted as size[<|>]#[KB|MB|GB]|none).
- Increased maximum line length to 65,535 characters under Windows NT/2K/XP.
missing in the helpfile.

</font><blockquote><font class="small">In Antwort auf:</font><hr />
- Added %fn_time% scripting variable for use in filenames, which expands as
'hh-mm-ss'.
- Added support for setting size filters in scripts. The format argument
should be formatted as size[<|>]#[KB|MB|GB]|none).
- Added "title:" argument to FILE-REPORT and FOLDER-REPORT script commands
to set the report title.
missing in the german helpfile.

</font><blockquote><font class="small">In Antwort auf:</font><hr />
- Added FileViewer\MaxFileChunks DWORD tweak that controls how large a file
has to be before BC will keep it locked during the comparison.
- Added Settings\CopyACLs DWORD tweak that controls whether NTFS ACLs are
copied when copying files.
missing in the knowledge base on the website.

I don't know if it's all, only a brief check ...

Bye
Christoph

We have updates (mostly cosmetic) for all the plug-ins pretty much ready to go. I'll get them released late today or tomorrow.

Our Yoko lives in Barcelona. I imagine she may have a namesake in New York.

I haven't asked her if there is a story about that.

Re: BC 2.3 build 230 released!-Win95 Issue

Is there some issue with the latest version and Windows 95?
I tried 2.2.7 without any issues, then loaded 2.3, and get errors.
I have a screen shot of the errors BC complains about in .jpg format. This occurs on two Windows95 systems that are built the same!
I did not uninstall 2.2.7 first, should I have?

Thank you for reporting the problem. We'll work to get it fixed.

In the meantime, you can download version 2.2.7 at:
http://www.scootersoftware.com/bc22en227.exe

It should work fine to install it over the top of 2.3.

Sorry for the difficulty.

FYI, you can also login to the forums, click "My Home", and subscribe to the "News and Announcements" forum. I've received an email this way for each of their announcements.

Well, I guess that could also work. Didn't know that. That would make the mailing list kind of useless then, wouldn't it.

I just would like to know the instant a new version is out. If the forum subscription is the way to go...advertising that option would be helpful to others.

We usually wait a few days after the release before sending out the email announcement in case something comes up that we need to fix before everyone downloads it. That's why we did an email announcement for 2.3.1 rather than 2.3. If you want emails for absolutely every release of BC, the plugins, and new add-on rules, subscribing to the "News & Announcements" forum like Pete suggested is the way to go.
