    21719 Blank error on copy long file name to ZIP

    Attempting to copy 117 files into a ZIP fails, giving a blank error message:

    Then repeating on just the first few of these files succeeded. I repeated this on successive files but after a few operations I got a similar fail. I narrowed it down to one file:

    That's:

    Code:
    2011-01-30 Pavadita, London     •    Music - DJ Chris    •    www.dancetango.co.uk [20-17-23-32] [00-02 Tango-Edgardo Donato canta Felix Gutierrez-El huracán (interrupted)-1932] [00-02 announcement].m3u
    202 characters.

    BC copies the same file to regular HD folder without error http://i.imgur.com/E0251Fe.png . WinRAR copies the same file to the same ZIP without error http://i.imgur.com/m0h0pju.png . BC copies the same file from ZIP [EDIT: to] the regular folder without error http://i.imgur.com/0atgKEN.png .

    1) Why the error? ZIP permits filenames of up to 250 chars.

    2) Please consider fixing the failure of the error message to appear.

    Hello,

    Could you clarify the difference in your last screenshot (Working) with the bug report? Does it work if the source is C:\ -> S:\.zip but fails if it is S:\-> S:\.zip?

    If so, what type of drive or device is S:\?

    I've used the above file name to generate an error log, but the error I created was visible text in the Log pane and the Error panel pop-up. In your log, what is the error text string?

      Last screen shot was in "BC copies the same file from ZIP [EDIT: to] the regular folder without error http://i.imgur.com/0atgKEN.png ." Screenshot is after successful copy right ZIP -> left regular folder.

      Failure report screenshots are after failed copy left regular folder -> right ZIP.

      No. C: regular folder -> S: .ZIP fails http://i.imgur.com/a5aoq4V.png

      And C: regaulr folder -> C: .ZIP fails http://i.imgur.com/5ijcJFJ.png

      So, no dependency on C:/S: seen. Regardless, FWIW, S: is an external USB HD.

      But this S: regular folder-> S: .ZIP works http://i.imgur.com/4GoSQvt.png . And this C: regular folder works -> S: .ZIP works: http://i.imgur.com/4sd3CVd.png . So, dependency on source path, failing on:

      Code:
      C:\TLIB projects\TDJ set lists\!old\!list sources archive\a

      Perhaps we're getting different errors.

        Hello,

        Is this limited to specific target archives that are the trouble? If you create any new .zip using BC4, will it fail to copy into the archive? If you use another archive software (and which one) does it fail?

          Not that I have found.

          Yes.

          Yes.

          With the same paths, do you get a different result?

            Ah hah! That's it, Chris. Thanks. My path must have been just slightly too short. Once I make it longer than Windows Explorer can handle, then I see this behavior in BC4. I'll open a tracker to investigate.

              I'd hoped my path at "So, dependency on source path, failing on..." was sufficient.

              Odd, no? Since this path is not being handled by Windows Explorer.
