    Hello,

I noticed that if one asks BC to MOVE a file located in a long series of sub-folders that are not yet in the destination, BC diligently creates all the new structure of folders and subfolders, but then it stops and refuses to move concretely the file saying that there is an operating system call fail.
The new folders remain in the destination partition.

By the way, same behaviour in BC 4.1.3.

    Regards,

    Hello,

    Just wondering...

I've seen that this thread has been viewed by almost one hundred and fifty people during last 3 days, but none has wrote to confirm or even deny it.

I'm just wondering if perhaps this is a problem related only to my Xubuntu OS and not at all to BC.

    @Dave L.
You have a configuration quite similar to mine. If possible, please, could you just try to move a file between two different partitions?
If it goes flawlessly, then the problem is doubtless into my computer.

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,

Thanks for the information. We're closed over the weekend, so we did not get the opportunity to reply earlier, but I've set up your test system and creating multiple subfolders help me reproduce the issue. I'll open a tracker entry to investigate a fix.

In my earlier posts in this thread, the failure occurred when trying to move a file between two different partitions.

I just did another test with BC 4.1.3, attempting to move a file between two partitions (both EXT4), and it failed with the error "An operating system call failed."

          @ Aaron
          Thanks for the quick reply.
If you can reproduce the issue, then it is a big step towards the solution. Looking forward to seeing the fix.
          Thanks again.

          Thanks for your test.
At least I was not alone in this problem.

Yes, I can confirm that from now on 4.1.3 you can not even MOVE between partitions formatted with the same file system. This had been possible for sure in some earlier versions.

            Hi,

today I found this thread because I ran into the same issue.

Actually I'm using Kubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, and it's not possible to move files between different partitions. It's not possible between a local drive and a network drive, either. Moving on the same partition works. Here it even works on a network drive (mounted via CIFS/Samba).

I know that earlier versions of BC had no problems on this because.

              Hello,

This should be fixed in the next release of BC4 (4.1.4) once it is available.

Yes, BC4 (4.1.4.20978) can now MOVE perfectly!

                Thanks to all @ ScooterSoftware

Yes, the original problem no longer occurs for me in BC 4.1.4.

                    Hello,

Just trying the Beta 4.2 version with Xubuntu 16.10.
The MOVE again doesn' t work.

                    Here the message from BC:
24/03/2017 10:45:10 Unable to move /xxx/yyy/zzz: No such file or directory
24/03/2017 10:45:11 Failed to move 3 items. Completed in 0,29 seconds.

                    Copy and Delete are perfect.

                    Thanks to all @ ScooterSoftware

The Move bug is fixed in Beyond Compare 4.2 that we released earlier today.
