    OpenOffice Documents Support?

I am using Beyond Compare 4.0 (Build 18847) Pro Edition on Mac OsX 10.9.5.

I am comparing two "odp" files (impress presentations). They are recognized as OpenOffice Documents, however I am not allowed to edit them.

Is this a limitation of BC or do I have something setup incorrectly?

    Hello,

It is a limitation of our external conversion. We currently support opening Open Office files by converting them to plain text in the background, but do not have a method to convert back. If you are familiar with any command line utility that can convert down to text, and back up to Open Office while preserving font and formatting, we can define a new custom File Format that uses this command line.

Technically it might be better to use the term OpenDocument rather than OpenOffice. The latter is only one of the applications that support the standard.

So I guess OpenDocumentPresentation (odp) files are essentially zip files that contain xml and image files. Is there a way to treat them as such? Seeing as BC has support for zip, xml, and image files I would think it is possible.

Yes, you can make Beyond Compare treat .odp files as zip archives.

In Beyond Compare 4 Mac, open "Beyond Compare > Preferences" from the menu.
Go to the Archive Types section.
          Select Zip.
Add *.odp to the semicolon separated list of file extensions.
