Hidden Items Dialog gets Windows' (Not Responding)

    v4.0, Build 18847, Windows

Setting Attributes for thousands of files, select show "Hidden Items" and the associated dialog is displayed but then immediately receives Windows' "Not Responding" warning in the title. Clicking/touching it results in Windows asking if to terminate.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Lars

    Lars,

    Thanks for reporting the issue.

Can you repeat the "Non responding" problem?

Were the files located on an internal or network drive?

If the files were on a network drive, how fast is the network connection between your PC and the network drive?

      Chris,

Can you repeat the "Non responding" problem?
100% of the time; very dependable.

Were the files located on an internal or network drive?
      Internal/Local WD Black

BTW, the time it takes to mark about 11,000 archive attributes on two physical drives < 10 ms (I'm assuming it knows and only updates the changes) WHILE the looking for "Hidden Items" takes between 1 and 2 minutes (guess).

        Hello,

So if you wait 1-2 minutes, the dialog eventually populates and shows the hidden items? If so, please give this a try:

Expand All in the main view to build all folders and items. Once finished, then re-attempt setting the attributes. Does this change the length of time required?

Yes, if anytime during the period for which it is performing this task and hasn't displayed any results clicking on it results in windows request to terminate.

When you expand all and then re-attempt setting the attributes you are *not* provided with the ability to display hidden items (in the expanded all).

Updated: Performed Full Defragmentation on both source and target drives. When the "Hidden Items" dialog/window is displayed it consistently (100%) will generate the "Not Responding" when anywhere within BC4 is clicked. It is impossible to click the "close" button on the dialog until its processing is finished (pressing Escape doesn't work either).

Thanks for the report. We'll look into why this dialog is taking so long. It should be much quicker and not detect as "Not Responding"

It's as if the there's a null value to the callback routine for handling stopping/close/updating as the 'not responding' occurs immediately upon displaying the dialog and clicking on close (or elsewhere).

We should have a fix for this issue in the next release of Beyond Compare 4. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
