How to compare RTF files (Rich Text Format)

    Hello,

I just noticed that by default *.rtf (Rich Text Format) files are compared as text files. The result is pretty much unreadable, since you see all the RTF formatting strings, too.

By using the BC2's MS Word filter for *.rtf files, you get more readable diff output. There are problems, like every paragraph is one very long line, but at least you can see the differences in body text.

Just wanted to let you know,

    --jouni

Oh btw, maybe the next (?) version of MS Word filter could also support *.rtf by default?

    BC2 has built-in RTF support:
<ul type="square">[*]Select Tools -> Edit Current Rules.[*]Switch to the Conversion tab.[*]Change the Conversion Type to Remove Rich Text Formatting. [/list]

BC2 doesn't support line wrapping. That's why paragraphs are one line.

When you use the RTF support that Erik mentioned, the Maximum Line Length setting on the General tab of the rules dialog, it will actually perform word wrapping instead of the character wrapping it normally does. It does that before the comparison though, so if you insert or delete words and the lines wrap at different points there will be a lot of extraneous differences.
