It appears you are opening the binary Excel document in our Text Compare session using the default File Format. Our default handling of Excel files is done in our Data Compare session type. If you open it in a Data Compare session, it should appear as you expect.
Google Translate had a bit of trouble with this one. The text mentions ".doc" but the screenshots show ".xls" in the Text Compare, and ".xls" in the Data Compare.
Both in the Text Compare and Data Compare, at the top of each pane it shows that both are using the "<default>" file format. This is incorrect. It should be "MS Excel" instead of "<default>".
This is controlled in the Tools menu -> File Formats dialog. The topmost file format listed here associated with *.xls or *.doc will be used for the Excel or Word files. If these file formats are not present or are unchecked, then they will not be used. By default, a Text Compare "MS Word" rule should exist, and a Data Compare "MS Excel" rule should exist. An additional download can be used to install a Text Compare "MS Excel" rule.
