git diff misaligning files

I had to reset up my user profile on mac, but have had the same git config for ages.
However, after setting up, now BC misaligns files for some reason. Any idea why this is happening?:

ah, I apparently lost my session settings which included "follow symbolic links".

That's exactly it.

Sessions can be for the specific view/current view, and saved and loaded like a bookmark to re-compare those targets. Or you can update the default session settings (for any future session loaded of that type) from the Home screen, in the saved Sessions list, expand the New folder, select Folder Compare (in this case), and then Edit Defaults. From here you can go to the Handling tab, enable Follow Symbolic Links, then save the new defaults for any new Folder Compare sessions.

Any previously saved Folder Compare Sessions (or auto-saved sessions) would have the old setting configuration unless they are manually updated.
