  • BC4 not loading on Ubuntu 16:10

    Ubuntu 16.10
    bcompare-4.1.9.21719_amd64.deb

I have been using BC four successfully on this computer for a number of days.

I just carried out what I thought was a minor Ubuntu upgrade, but this seems to have hosed Beyond Compare.

Also I had just entered the license key.

Now every time I try to launch BC the icon appears for a few seconds and then disappears

I have uninstalled BC4 and shutdown the computer then reinstalled with graphical interface.

    Repeated with command line prompts

Any suggestions as what to try next?

    Hello,

Our settings are stored in your user's .config/bcompare/. If you uninstall BC4, then Move or delete this folder for a clean uninstall, then restart, then reinstall, does this help get you up and running again?

If you run bcompare from the terminal, are there any error messages?

      Thanks for speedy reply.

      These suggestions look good.

So I deleted the bcompare folder in .config, reloaded and BC4 is all happy again.

        Thanks!

The .config folder contains all of our Setting.xmls. The Tools menu -> Import can bring in some of your previous settings if you still have access to the individual .xml files.
