  • Uninstall 4.2 error

    Hi All,

    I have a problem uninstalling Beyond Compare 4.2 from a Windows Server 2008 R2.

    Error message:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BEX
    Application Name: _iu14D2N.tmp
    Application Version: 51.1052.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 5cdc4e68
    Fault Module Name: StackHash_8dfe
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
    Exception Offset: 0018fad8
    Exception Code: c0000096
    Exception Data: badc0de1
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.272.7
    Locale ID: 2057
    Additional Information 1: 8dfe
    Additional Information 2: 8dfe803e757a5549a14c8bab881063c6
    Additional Information 3: ee49
    Additional Information 4: ee492c3c6ace524b4520b078b0dea077

I`ve rebooted the machine, I`ve started the uninstall from elevated rights command prompt, but nothing helped. I don`t want to manually remove the software because it`s going to leave some traces in Programs and Features probably.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,
    Bogdan

    Hello,

Which version of BC4.2 are you currently running? 4.2.10 (latest)? If the uninstaller has been corrupted, it might help to install over the existing install with a fresh copy downloaded from here:
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php

Then reboot, then try the uninstall once more.

      Hi,

First I`ve installed BCompare-4.2.3.22587, which I`ve upgraded later to 4.2.10 as part of the uninstall troubleshooting. I get the same error with the new version as well.

      Thank you

Thanks for trying that. Is there any other software running (such as anti-virus) you could try temporarily disabling? It might be interfering with the InnoSetup uninstaller.

I'm having a similar problem, uninstalling Beyond Compare 4.2.10 from a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM.
          Details below.
(I was uninstalling it because the context menu integration wasn't working. I was going to try the registry fix detailed at http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...?zz=kb_shellex.)

We haven't reproduced this scenario in house yet (our test VM's of Windows Server have allowed uninstall). Is there anything else running on your server, such as Anti-virus, you could disable? Any customizations to UAC you could make to elevate privileges? How is your Windows Defender managed?

For what the uninstaller would interact with, here's a quick list: The file system is your install directory (default: Program Files\Beyond Compare 4\), and your user's AppData settings directory (%AppData%\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare 4\), and the registry under Current_User\Software\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare 4\.

For shell extension troubleshooting, we recommend uninstalling as a troubleshooting step, but you may be able to simply run the Remove.Reg, System Reboot, and then run the Add.reg.

Thanks for the quick reply Aaron. That VM is running McAfee, but I didn't see any indication in the McAfee logs that it had interfered with the uninstall at all. I went ahead and just did the registry remove/reboot/add thing, and that got the context menu back. So that's good enough for now.
