  • Support for Additional Amazon S3 Providers

Beyond Compare already supports Amazon S3 profiles but that support is limited exclusively to Amazon's own servers, and it would seem only to a specific path scheme.

The first problem this poses is that it does not permit usage of alternative S3-compatible storage providers, such as Wasabi and a host of others (see this list for some examples: https://help.servmask.com/knowledgeb...age-providers/).

The second problem is that there are some cases when using an alternative path scheme is necessary to access S3 buckets, including the path-style scheme and region-specific schemes (e.g., s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com).

Both of these problems can be resolved, I hope, by simply adding a couple of options to the S3 profile.

Here's what the settings look like in Nextcloud. Some of these settings are probably not needed for Beyond Compare, but the very minimum needed to support most use cases, including region-specific servers and alternative S3 providers, is probably just the hostname (and possibly the port).

Is there any chance this support can be added soon?

    Hello,

BC4's Amazon S3 support is limited to Amazon itself, but adding support for Amazon-compatible hosts is something I can add to our Customer Wishlist.

      Hello Aaron -

Did this feature request ever make it into BC4? I am looking for an application such as BC4 to connect to an AWS S3 alternative (such as Wasabi as mentioned in the OP).

As far as I can tell, the only thing missing is a field to input the server/service address to make it work for Wasabi atleast.

No, BC4.3.3 only supports Amazon AWS sources as a profile type. For alternative sources, you would have to use another tool to bind the location as a drive letter, then access it as a drive letter in BC4. It's still on our wishlist to enhance this support, but is not a small project to implement.

          Thanks Aaron -

It's good to know it's "on the list". Unfortunately most applications I have previewed/tested cache the data locally to bind it as a local drive. I'm looking to not cache the data locally as in my instance, it's over 6TB of data that I'm looking to compare with BC4. Caching that is not really an option.

If I come across a tool that will bind it as a drive letter without caching - then it will work.

Small or large to implement, has this feature request made it onto a product roadmap at the very least or am I better off not holding out hope and just looking elsewhere?

S3 storage other than AWS (Wasabi, etc) is logged as a feature request, but it isn't scheduled on the product roadmap right now.

There is a software, WebDrive "https://webdrive.com/", that should fit this need.
You can download a test version to check if it works for You.
