Will Beyond compare able to detect file content differences from file of the same name without having to open the file content first?

Hello,

BC4's Folder Compare, on start up, will align items in the left and right base folders side by side, by folder structure and file name. This aligned pairs can then be scanned. The default scan is timestamp/size, but you can also perform a content scan from the Session menu -> Session Settings, Comparison tab: Binary (or Rules-based to compare/ignore specific text/data).
