  • Newbie Question: Comparing Two Syntactically-Identical Blocks

    Consider two files, opened for comparing differences, the left pane holding this text:

    Code:
    private void SomeMethodName(int parameterOne, int parameterTwo, int parameterThree)
    {
    ...
    The right pane is holding this text:

    Code:
    private void SomeMethodName(int parameterOne,
                                int parameterTwo,
                                int parameterThree)
    {
    ...
    Is there a combination of settings that would cause these two files to be identical, even though there is a difference in formatting that is THIS extreme (in terms of "minor" differences)?

    Hello,

    In BC4, the Text Compare always considers line breaks to be important differences. In order to compare these files, they would need to be tidied with an external conversion which normalizes the line breaks and sorts them the same way. We have an example KB article here:
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...rnalconversion

    And we have a few "tidied" variant formats for download here:
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/downl..._moreformatsv4

    Please note that if you make edits or save the file in the new format, it would save with the new formatting of line breaks.
