  • File Server Migration - NTFS permissions not been copied

We are using BC 4 pro version.

    We're starting a file server migration from Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2 x Windows Server 2012 R2.
However we have run into issues in the process of migrating from file server (2008) to two new servers (2012). BC seems to be doing the job properly, but it’s not copying any NTFS permissions. We have done the following:

    - Set the “Copy NTFS file permissions…” flag in Handling
    - Ran BC as Admin
    - Made sure that the folders in questions aren’t Read Only (although, some of the folders get marked with (R) , this does not seem to affect the results of the copy.
These are personal user folders so we need to make sure that the permissions are all correct before confirming the shares are operational.

Please let me know if we have missed anything.

    Hello,

We have a KB article with a few common hurdles. You've hit the first two (Run As Admin and destination permissions):
    http://www.scootersoftware.com/support.php?zz=kb_ntfs

If there is an (r) next to an item, then it is set to read only. I would suggest double checking however you are verifying folder permissions and Read Only status.

Are any of the items inherited? Are the destination User directories already generated by the destination OS? If you copy to another location/target on the same destination drive (c:\test\) do the permissions copy?
