  • Change "double click" behavior in Folder Comparison session

How do I change the double click behavior to instead of opening the Binary Compare it shows the Text Compare, which attends much better my needs?

    Thanks in advance.

To change the behavior, open "Tools > File Formats". When you double click a pair of files, Beyond Compare uses the highest file format in the list with a matching file mask to determine how to compare files.

To force a specific file extension to open in the Hex Compare, click + to create a new file format. Select "Hex Format" as the type. In the General tab, enter a mask that matches the extension of your files, such as *.bin. Save the file format. Multiple file masks are separated with semicolons.

In addition to Chris' comments to force the files to open in the Hex Compare or Text Compare, BC4 tries to auto-detect the correct Compare to open.

If we are opening in the Binary compare by default, it is likely your files are actually binary and not plain text. What file extension are you opening and what program do you normally open them in? We may need to use an External Conversion to save the files as Text first, and then open in the Text Compare.
