  • Bug: crash during compare 2 archives created with Winrar 5.11

    Hello everyone!

    I work with RAR5 archives a lot.
I'm unable to compare some of them, because BC4 crashes.
I prepared 2 simple archives to demonstrate a problem.
I hope You will be able to reproduce a bug and fix it

At which point does the crash occur for you? I am able to open the archive and compare the files in BC4. If you reboot your machine, does it continue to crash? Is there a crash report generated, and can you email it in (support@scootersoftware.com) with a link back to this forum thread?

      Hello!

Session -> New Session -> Folder Compare
Select "archive1.rar" on the left side.
Select "archive2.rar" on the right side.
BC4 immediately start the comparison and crash.

      The reboot doesn't help.
The crash is reproducible for me each time (100%).
I will send a generated crash report in few minutes.

I have the same issue with these two files on my laptop, with Windows Server Enterprise English 32 R2 SP2. I compare the two files and I see four files inside each one. B.C.4 crashes only when I try to compare License.rtf. I sent two crash reports with the automatic system.

          I am under Windows 8.1 64 bits.

The crash occurred when comparing a second pair. The first comparison is Ok, but the second make BC4 to crash. (When comparing the 2 .rtf files as soon as BC4 is opened, I have no crash.)

          Regards,
          Michel.

Thanks for the test. The key is to either have a Rules-based comparison, or to double click on the License.rtf (topmost file). I've reproduced this crash and we'll get it fixed.

This should be fixed in Beyond Compare 4.0.1 that was released earlier today.
