  • Support for xz archives? (Found in recent debian archives)

    Hello

Could you add support for xz archives?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xz

I am starting to come across them inside .deb archive files, as the default format for the internal data archive of files was changed to that format (from bzip2) late last year.

As Beyond Compare does not support the new archive format it looks as if the overall .deb archive support has regressed, when it has not.

Beyond Compare 4.1 beta is now available with .xz archive support.

    Hello,

This issue we currently have is due to a compiler/middle-man problem between the library and BC4. It's actually something we're working on addressing recently. We may well be able to get this in after all, but not until we make a larger change-over. Potentially a 4.1.x release.

The 7zip dll file (7z.dll) do support XZ file format since version 9.04 (from history.txt of 7-zip)
Also wikipedia said it's stable since 9.20

Actually, I was able to generate one with 7zip on Windows and talked with our developer. Unfortunately, this archive format is out of scope for now given our current archive libraries. We won't be able to implement it soon.

    Hello,

Thanks for the report. Do you have an example .deb file we would download and test against? We just recently updated our archive handling in the BC4 beta.
