  • Whitespace separate from unimportant text

I like to, at times, compare unimportant data or not.

I would like to completely ignore whitespace differences, whether or not the input line is "unimportant" or "important".

Right now, in Beyond Compare 3, I can classify whitespace as important or unimportant.

But if I'm doing a compare including unimportant, I get those whitespace
    differences.

A nuisance when we finally end up removing all the unnecessary trailing whitespace from a source file that some editors leave in.

can we ignore whitespace even if displaying unimportant differences?

Sorry, it isn't possible to display unimportant differences but hide whitespace differences in Beyond Compare 3.

We'll consider this for a future version of Beyond Compare.

Sometimes, I need to compare two version with similar code section, but they are all comment out already.
In this situation, the whitespace differences will be highlighted.
It really hinders me to focus on important differences.
Is there any way to set whitespace unimportant in comment grammar?

      Thanks,
      Barry

      P.S. I am using BC4 build 18847

Not within a grammar. You can either delete the grammar element, or create a cloned Format without the grammar element. For "Everything else" text (not part of a defined grammar), you can make the whitespace separately unimportant.
