  • How to control alignment of text files

    Hi,

I want to compare two log files. Each log file is generated on a different PC, but at some point the log files are containing the same number.

I want to use this line to align both files.

    How can I do that?

Here are such a line as example:
    4/3/2009 07:27:04 Updating TCR=2522774, RCode=3, msg=
    Importand is the part "TCR=2522774".

    Many thanks,
    Thorsten

Edit or create a new File Format (Tools menu) and go to the Grammar tab.
Define a new Line Weight to match on this phrase "TCR=\d+"
Regular Expression. Give it a very high Priority.

Then play around with your Alignment controls under the Session Settings. You can increase the Alignment bar, use the Alternate Method, etc.

Let us know if you have any trouble getting your files to align. You can send us a pair of example files, a link to this forum post, and your support package (Help menu -> Support; Export) to support@scootersoftware.com and we can help you out with this specific example.
