Excluding known/expected differences from a comparision?

Is there a way I can filter out known/expected differences in a comparison?

    Example:
I want to compare file a to file b. File a is known to have many references to a hostname01. File b is known to have many references to hostname02. So I consider that a known/expected difference that I do not want to see when comparing the two files. Is there a way I can configure beyond compare to show me differences excluding the known differences that I define?

    Thanks,

    Rob

You can use Session --> Session Settings --> Replacements to do what you want.

      Hello,

aussieboykie is correct. Text Replacements are available in the Text Compare session, in the Pro version of BC3.

You can also define text as Unimportant in general cases by following this kb article:
      http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo..._unimportantv3

Text Replacements are for when you need to mark only specific aligned text as unimportant, for example: A = B is only unimportant when A and B are aligned. A and B individually are still important.

Unimportance marks A unimportant if it is ever not aligned to A. A = C will still show as a difference, A will be Unimportant, but C will still be Important (unless it also is defined as Unimportant).

Let us know if you have any questions.

As an enhancement, It would be great to have a quick drop-down to choose defined replacments similiar to how the file type override drop-down works.

          Thanks,

          Rob
