  • Feature Request: Add "Backup File" option to right-click menu.

I know there is an auto backup option, however many times I want to use my own naming scheme to backup files in the directory where the original file exists. Currently, I have to do this through OS commands instead of doing it right in BC3. So I'd like to be able to right-click on any file and choose "Backup File" from the drop down and enter the name of the backup file and have it save to the same folder as the original and also have the option to navigate to a different location and backup the file there.

Example: I want to backup config.xml as 2009_04_13.config.xml in the same folder.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Hello,

You mention you have to do this through OS Commands. Which commands are you using? Would they be usable with our Open With structure?

I currently, ssh into the system and do something like: cp httpd.conf 2009_04_23.httpd.conf

I can do this in bc3 with the rename file option, but I don't want to touch the original file, just create a backup of the original file in the same folder with a custom name.

      Thanks,

      Rob

        Hi Rob,

there are some limited backup capabilities in BC3:
Please take a look in the Tools -> Options... dialog and there at the section called Backups.

But there is not yet any possibility to append the current date ore something to a filename automatically. Maybe a tiny enhancement task for the Scooter team?

        Bye
        Christoph

Already in there, Christoph. Thanks for the input and I'll add your notes in there as well.
