  • Folder Compare files with different names

    Hi ,

Trying to compare files with different file names but the files do not align properly.

    folder1 folder2
    file1.txt
    file2.txt
    file3.txt

Also looking to compare contents of file1.txt with file2.txt and file3.txt with the folder compare. Manually opening each file and comparing it takes time .

    Hello,

BC4's Folder Compare aligns by file name (and folder structure) first, and then compares aligned pairs. BC4 does not support aligning on content first.

BC4 Pro's Alignment Overrides is a feature to define a logical name rule, where if there is a static change to the files (a regular expression), but this requires knowing how the file names have changed and defining a rule around it.

Hi , if the file names are different , would I then have to rename the files to be identical in order to compare the files? Or is there another way to do it in BC.

        Hello,

If they were renamed to match on the Left and Right panes, this would get them to align (and then compare).

Using the Pro feature of Alignment Overrides could also have a defined rule, such as:
        (filename1)\.txt = prefix-$1.txt
