Data compare column settings in a folder compare session

    Hi,

We are looking to compare the contents of a few thousand files using folder compare. We would like to apply the use of the 'data compare column settings' in this folder compare session. We have seen that the data compare column settings can be set within a data compare session, but we are unable to apply them to this folder compare session.

    Can this be done?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

    Hello Steve,

    Yes. Two ways:
You can use the Home screen, expand the Edit session defaults folder in the Saved Sessions list, select Data Compare, and edit the settings. These settings will be the new defaults and used in all future comparisons. If you then run a Rules-based comparison in your Folder Compare, this is like double clicking each pair of files and viewing them in their file viewer. If the Data Compare is the default compare for a pair of files, the default settings would be used and the comparison status returned to the parent folder compare in the center column.

Alternatively, you can open a Folder Compare, save it as a session, and then double click on a pair of files. In the file view, go to the Session menu -> Session Settings, and edit the settings. Then while still in the Session Settings dialog (and have not clicked Ok yet), change the lower left drop down from "Use for this view only" to "Use for all files in parent session" or "Use for these files in parent session." Click Ok, close the file view, and re-save the parent Folder Compare session (after setting it to also run a Rules-based content compare it its Session Settings.)
