  • How to exclude sub directory trees from folder compare?

Assume I compare two big directory trees with the base dir:

    D:\logs\*

    and

    E:\backups\*

However from the comparison all sub dirs with the following folder patterns
    should be excluded:

    <BASE>\*log2009*\
    and
    <BASE>\terr\

So in detail the following sample dirs should NOT be compared:

    D:\logs\log2009b\
    D:\logs\terr\

Note that the following sub dirs should be compared:

    D:\logs\run1\log2009\
    D:\logs\aaa\bbb\terr\

So how exactly do I specify these exclude patterns for a session?
I found no "exclude" dir list entry field.

    Thank you
    Peter

You nearly got it (<BASE> is represented by a single leading dot in the patterns). Just put "-.\*log2009*\;-.\terr\" without the quotes into the filters box.

You can easy check and edit these settings in Session/Session Settings.../Name Filters tab. There you have the "exclude" dir list entry field.

      Hello,

Thanks. Let us know how Lutz's suggestion works for you. In addition, you can find the Help article and syntax information in our Help file. If you go to the Folder Compare's Session menu -> Session Settings, Name Filters tab, you can click the '?' button next to the Close 'X' button for context sensitive help. This is where you can find documentation on .\ and other syntax.

        Thank you. Works fine.
I appreciate right-click context menu with "Exclude" entry.
