    Aaron,
I tried with "http://example.com" and "http://example.org" (which each redirect to to identical error messages) and that worked. I am thinking that the previous example fails because the BC3 session cannot retrieve the URLs. They are addresses of logs on a Hudson server which has security turned on, requiring a userid and password for access. I was able to export my cookies from Chrome to a standard netscape format usable by wget, and was able to retrieve the files from the command line that way.

I tried putting a copy of the cookies.txt file in BC3's install directory, but no joy. Is BC3 capable of using the cookies.txt file, or password authenticating in any way?

BC3's Check for Updates uses your current Internet Explorer settings. It is likely this might be similar. Can you configure Internet Explorer to be able to access these files?

        1. Started IE9, logged into the web page
        2. clicked on target URLs to test getability, worked
        3. copied URLs from IE and pasted in the new text compare session as before
        4. Press enter, get error messages, "File Not Found" in both panes

Should this work on a Linux host? Is there a particular Browser I should use to seed the cookies?

          Hello,

We may not be able to support this type of security and connection at this time. We definitely don't look for any additional cookies or files in the BC3 Install directory. If we are able to load already saved credentials, it would need to be part of Windows (Explorer or maybe Internet Explorer).

            Hey Comparistas,
Its been more than 10 years (!) since my original request, what is the status of direct entry general URL comparison capability?

              Hello,

BC4's File views still support HTTP addresses, while the Folder Compare does not. BC4 Pro added WebDav support which uses http syntax, but requires a webdav server to be setup, similar to a website serving content as S/FTP and using sftp syntax.
