Beyond Compare 2 cannot compare MS Word documents because they have complex, proprietary formats that it doesn't understand. However, there is an additional rules definition which extracts and compares the text (read-only). You can download this MS Word rule at: http://www.scootersoftware.com/morerules
Word itself has a file comparision feature.
It's menu entry on the upper half of the Tools menue.
Unfortunately i have the German version of Word, so i
cannot tell you the name of the menu.
I apologize for the late response, but I am a new user. There is a tool within Word for comparing two documents. It may not be there (on the Tools menu) by default which will require Customizing to add it. However, this is a simple task and the feature is called Compare Documents... When you Customize the menu, select the category Tools.
