  • How do i ignore specific part of a files name?

I wanted to compare 2 folder that like this:
    Folder 1:
    Filesname 1.rar
    Filesname 2.rar
    etc
    Folder 2:
    Filesname 1 {random number/text here}.rar
    Filesname 2 {random number/text here}.rar
I wanted Beyond Compare to ignore the whole "{random number/text here}" so i can compare both files and replace according from folder 2 to folder 1

Beyond Compare can't ignore random filename changes. It is on the feature request list for a future version.

Ignoring fixed changes is supported, such as filename1.ext on the left and filename1_suffix.ext on the right.
To define fixed changes in Beyond Compare 4 Pro (not supported in BC4 Standard):
In the Folder Compare, load the folder with filename1.ext on the left and filename1_suffix.ext on the right.
Click the Rules toolbar button (referee icon).
    Go to the Misc tab.
    In Alignment Overrides, click +.
    Align left file:*.*
    with right file: *_suffix.*

      Correction from our lead developer:

BC can do this as long as the random suffix is on the left. The regular expression can match the pattern, it just can’t substitute to it
