How to make incremental data backups using BC

    Hi all,
BC is good enough to compare 2 folders and then sync both sides or mirror one side. But I want to make incremental backup. Means only those files are saved in the folder which are updated.
Is there a way to do this using BC.
    Thanks for the reply.

    Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. Incremental snapshot updates is something on our wishlist. Working locally or generating a snapshot without a CRC code will usually create the .bcss file pretty quickly, but there are factors that can slow down the generation, such as including CRC information with the snapshot or working with very large datasets over the network.

Unfortunately, a snapshot cannot be updated incrementally. For every changes in the folder tree, an updated snapshot needs to be built from scratch all over again. If the folder tree is huge, it would take a large amount of time - many times in a matter of days - and we are talking about a single location.

That is the reason why BC users have been begging for the incremental snapshot update feature instead of the current one that needs rebuilding from scratch.

    Hello,

Yes. First compare against your Backup(Snapshot) and use the Copy To Folder to copy differences to a dated new folder.
Then generate a Snapshot of the current backed up state.

When you need to backup again later, compare your folder with the Snapshot (which is the state of your files at the time of the last backup). The changes are files that have changed since then; then use the Copy To Folder command to copy them to a new dated folder. Take another Snapshot of the now current state to use next time.

Let us know if you have any questions.
