Comparison Results Column

Hi
I'm new to Beyond Compare and was curious about the centre column which looks like it should display an icon relating to comparison status of files at each side as shown in

On my copy I get the coloured filenames to indicate newer, older etc but not the icons. Why is this?

The middle column is shown for Content Comparisons. Once the content inside the file is checked the column will populate. A file can be newer and considered different by default, but once you open it you may find the files have the same contents. The folder compare will then be updated with this information.

There are a couple of ways to do this:

Open the pair of files. Then close the file comparison. This should run a Rules content comparison on that pair of files.

or

Go to the Session menu -> Comparison Controls, and use the CRC, Binary, or Rules comparison to run a content comparison on your pair of folders. These comparisons take longer to run than the default settings.
