  • Question about rules

    Maybe this is obvious, but

I want to have the following rules for comparison between a web site on an FTP server and the local mirror:
    a) for anything other than html/php, I want simply a file size comparison, for reasons of efficiency-+
    b) for html/php, I want to compare contents but ignore PC/Unix line endings

How do I set this up?

    Re: Question about rules

    Hi Andrew!

AFAIK the compare algorithm is a rather global setting. That means you cannot determine it per file type.

I actually don't know if this could be changed in the first versions of the upcoming Beyond Compare 3.
Aaron, can you say a little bit more ... ?

    Bye

      Re: Question about rules

It is a setting that is global based on the session. So, per Session you can have a different compare.

So, start up bc, and setup that session to Filter on one type of file, and set the comparison rule the way you want (example: filter all php/html, and set the comparison to compare content). Save this session and then open another session, changing the filter to be not php/html and compare with filesize.
Save this session, and manually run one after the other.
      -or-
You can then use script to run one session, and then the other. There is documentation for scripting in the help file, some in our KB here: http://www.scootersoftware.com/suppo...riptingref.php
and a forum dedicated to scripting here:

Let me know if you have any other questions.
