  • comparing XML files?

    Hi, I would like to compare XML files.

    One set is formatted the terse way, i.e. all attributes are on a single line like:
    Code:
    <element attrib1="something" attrib2="something else" />
    the others were reformatted and read like:
    Code:
    <element
        attrib1="something"
        attrib2="something else" />
    i.e. in the latter there is much more unimportant white space (including linefeeds).

    I tried to define a rule for this but did not succeed. BC keeps showing me two such files as different, even though in the comparison rules dialog I marked all white space inclusing linefeeds as being unimportant (only the character case checkbox is empty).

    What am I missing? Why does BC still show such files as being different?

    This is on WinXP & using the latest BC (V2.4.3).

    Regards,
    Michael

    Re: comparing XML files?

    BC always compares files line-by-line before lining up items on the line, so there isn't any way to force it to detect these as matching.

      Re: comparing XML files?

      Sorry, I forgot about our XML rules. Download the XML Tidy rules from http://scootersoftware.com/download.php?c=kb_morerules and it will standardize for formatting for the two files so BC should be able to compare them correctly.
