    New BC3 Purchase (3 Licenses)

As mentioned previously, it is possible to copy files without changing the dates.

I was surprised to learn that BC3 does not have the option.

      Hello,

BC3 does attempt to preserve the Last Modified date during the copy. However, if the destination does not support this behavior, we will still copy the file (at which point the Last Modified date is generally updated to the current time. You can then sometimes use our manual Touch command to override and set the Last Modified date.

We otherwise follow the same behavior as Windows Explorer when performing copies.

Preserving and modifying other dates is on our Wishlist.

Windows Explorer is crappy when it comes to a lot of things and Microsoft is not going to listen to people.

Honestly - Its a small thing but its been years and no one, not even BC has implemented it.

The only way for me to maintain them dates are the TeraCopy and RichCopy 2 step method I've figured out.

If we all wanted default MS behavior companies and tools such as yours would never be built or bought.

The object of products and companies such as yours is to fill those GAPS not duplicate them.

          Me too !
I think this is indeed something important.
Have to investigate all kinds of competitive products for this purpose...
Robocopy, Teracopy, Fastcopy, Richcopy, rsync, cwsync, double commander...
Beyond Compare should have this option.

Honestly, for something so small it should not take so many years of people asking for it to be implemented. It's a core feature.

I use both TeraCopy and RichCopy in multisteps. Its a pain as I compare in BC and then have to go use 2 other tools for something that should take ONE click.

              To do it effectively:
              - TeraCopy 2.1.2 Pro for Copying works - Has a small Gap, some/ few Folders that get created on the other DRIVE, do not CARRY OVER the CREATED Date. Wierd quirk
              - RichCopy - I use this with CREATE FOLDERS and PRESERVE Time Stamps settings. It takes care of the FOLDERS TimeStamps that get messed.

It will take some practice to get this down.

Do share if you find another workflow that works conveniently.

The failure to preserve the date and time of copied and moved folders is a serious issue and should be taken seriously by Scooter Software.

It is possible to work around it by first copying the folders and files, then using the touch function to reset the destination folders and files with the source dates and times, and then deleting the source folders and files.

But this shouldn't be necessary, and since the functionality of "touch" already exists in BeyondCompare, it shouldn't be a big job to preserve the dates and times of folders when moving them.

Please put someone on this issue!

You may wish to have a look at a tool named SetFolDate

                  http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/i...?topic=35881.0

                  File:
                  http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/i...0;attach=79271

                  =
It is a workaround though, but the tool is alsoof use to reset folder dates to newest or oldest file in that folder, which may be handy in cases of new folders are being created and sorting on folder dates is essential (like folders with photos).

                  I often use it.
                  =

"Preserving file creation dates is on our wish list for a future version of Beyond Compare."

                    Any progress on this?

This is supported in Beyond Compare 4 beta. In the Folder Compare or Folder Sync, select "Session > Session Settings". Go to the Handling tab. Check "Copy creation dates".

Hi Chris, great to see this feature implemented - I've wanted it for a long time!

Is it possible to enable the "Copy creation dates" setting when using scripting? i.e. I have a nightly script that mirrors all my files to a remote network share. I'd like the mirror to copy the original creation dates, so if I ever need to restore from it, things will look as identical as possible to what was there in the first place. Below is my script.

I purposely set up all the options and base folders explicitly, and avoid loading a session, so that the script doesn't have any external dependencies. If you could point me to a command to enable the "Copy creation dates" setting (or implement a feature enhancement to expose it) I'd appreciate it!

                          Code:
                          # Turn logging on
                          log normal "F:\NightlyLogs\BeyondCompareLog.txt"
                          # Set comparison criteria
                          criteria timestamp size
                          # Confirm overwrites
                          option confirm:yes-to-all
                          # Optional: exclude certain file types
                          # filter "-*.*~"
                          # Load the base folders
                          load "e:\" "\\192.168.25.3\Backups\Daily-Mirror"
#Make the target identical to the source
#includes deleting files that only exist on the target side
                          sync create-empty mirror:left->right

I confirm that this works in Build 19761 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, NTFS: http://i.imgur.com/kcKYuzj.png

                            Thanks.

Is there still a plan for FC to offer a Date Created column?
