  • Not ignoring line termination

When I compare two folders using binary comparison, I get mismatches for files that have differing line termination. That is actually what I want. The problem occurs when I go into the file viewer to see what the differences are. When the file viewer sees that the only difference is the line termination, it ignores that difference, and when I exit the file viewer the files are marked as equal in the folder view.

Is there any way to tell Beyond Compare that I want all differences, no matter how small, to be counted? Both in the file viewer and elsewhere?

You can do a rules based comparison. But, for each type of file, you will have to up the that file's rule and check the "Line endings" option in the "Whitespace includes" group.

Thanks for the suggestion. I made a new rule that handles all file types and put it at the top, and made sure it counted everything as significant. That did the trick!
