  • Ignore part of filenames

    Hi again,

Another feature I miss (or cannot find):

I have folders filled with lots of files with names like these:

    Mainserver_394_01.txt
    Gummel_394_6a.txt
    Bingo_224_gg.txt
    a.s.o.

The "394" (394,224...) part of this filenames is automatically increased. So I want to compare files with any number in that place, for example "LogMainserver_394_01.txt" and "LogMainserver_123_01.txt" should be considered the SAME FILENAME in the BC-View so I can see if anything changed inside the files without having to select each pair of files, manually...

    Is this possible?

    Thanks, again

    - Oliver

    Re: Ignore part of filenames

    Hello Smeagle,

There isn't a way to do this in the current version of BC.

The current version will only align files for comparison if their filenames and folder structure relative to the loaded base folders are the same.

The only filename feature in the current version is the "ignore file extension" check box in the Advanced tab of Session|Comparison Control.

In the future we would like to support filename matching like you describe.

In the current version, the only way to workaround the filename differences is to rename filenames so they match using the Actions|Rename command.

It's many years later, is it possible now? (sorry, I couldn't find another topic that discussed it...)

My need is to do a directory compare of the following: (ignoring -dev, -uat, etc... in the filename) and have it recognize/match similar files...

      dev/env-dev.properties
      dev/applicationConfig-dev.xml
      uat/env-uat.properties
      uat/applicationconfig-uat.xm

      Edit:
I found this, which might fit my needs... (suggestions still welcome)

        Update:

I'm certain "Align Override" will do it. (a feature in V3 Pro)
Now that I've found the feature, having trouble with the regex which can be tricky.

I've opened a new thread in the appropriate forum.
