My team of software developers love Beyond Compare and we've used it happily for years as our difference tool when developing software. However, there is a bug in "File viewer" mode that's been there for a while and which irritates some of us intensely; especially when we are trying to track and merge file changes.
It is best explained with these steps:
1. Compare two files as part of a merging process.
2. Switch to view "Just Differences" or "Differences with Context" to easily pick out differences.
3. Select the multiple lines which constitute the differences in one of the files.
4. Switch to "Show all" filter to see where these lines are in relation to code ready to merge...
5. *Zap*... all of the lines I've selected are lost except for the last one I highlighted.
This is SOOOOO annoying, as selecting the correct lines can be a long process, especially on large files. Losing them when you switch views can leave you fuming, especially as BC seems to have no problem remembering any line edits you've made, so why not line selections?!!!!!. Line selections should persist when filter views are changed, or at least make it an option we can switch on.
One more suggestion for the future - allow line editing on the actual line in question, rather than at the bottom. Perhaps as an option and using a floating editbox. It would help massively in terms of visualisation.
Apart from this bug, we are all very happy with BC.
