    Sessions in new tabs option

Ever thought about an option to have sessions chosen from the toolbar open in a new tab?

We actually added the toolbar option as a way to open in current tab. All of the other options launch new tabs/windows.

New tabs (can be created with a hotkey) default to the Home Screen, which lets you then pick any of the session types. The "New" menu under the Session menu also opens in new tabs after selecting a specific session type.

Are the other options less convienent?

Ok. I guess my first thought about the toolbar button was that it was just a shortcut to Open Session. I can imagine a need to switch between sessions without having to deal with seperate tabs. So I'll memorize Ctrl-T

Open new tab/window passing the Home Screen

I'm looking for a possibility to open a new session without using the Home Screen.

        Is it possible

        1. to add an option/tweak to pass the Home Screen in this case (opening the last selected session type which is already preserved in the Home Screen)
        OR
        2. to add a submenu with all session types to open them directly
        OR
        3. to add key modifiers to the Session/New-submenu (i. e. None=New Tab/Ctrl=New Window/Shift=Copy active Tab in New Tab/Shift+Ctrl=Copy active Tab in New Window)?

Only one solution is neccessary and ... any other ideas are welcome!

You can't use a workspace that loads on startup?

Edit: Never mind... I reread your post. I guess "on startup" is not necessarily what you are asking for.

            My thoughts:

This sounds like a reasonable request. I would think that the tweak would simply replace the functionality of the current "Open Session" menu item.

This already exists...so I'm not sure what you have in mind.

              2. is referring to Session/New Tab and Session/New Window. I frequently want to open a new empty tab (folder or text compare). The existing Session/New/<session type> ever opens a new window but I would prefer a new tab.

In addition to my request the possibility to assign shortcuts for different session types would be very useful.

                Under Tools\Options\Tabs

Set "Open sessions in" to "A new tab"

                  Many thanks Michael!

I really forgot this long time option and we can forget my previous thoughts.

                  Greetings Lutz

                    Hello,

Glad you two were able to work this out. By changing this option:

Set "Open sessions in" to "A new tab"

And then using Alt+S -> N -> first letter once or twice, then Enter, you can open a new Session with the keyboard into a new tab.

Let us know if that is not the functionality you were looking for.
