Stop placing the .list file in sources.list.d

I use a local mirror so I already have a line for beyond compare inside the sources.list file

How can I bypass the auto-add to the sources.list.d directory evertime the software upgrades?

It isn't possible to prevent the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/scootersoftware.list from being created when you install or upgrade Beyond Compare for Linux.

The documentation on priority for apt is pretty difficult to understand, but it sounds like if there are two sources for the same item, the repository that is listed first is used. If you create a new file that comes earlier in alphanumeric order, like /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ascootersoftware.list with your local repository in it, that might give it preference.

But I'm using only the sources.list file, not the folder
