Unable to rename new file type.

The popup menu has a Rename item. which seems to not do anything. Clicking on the name brings up the usual inline renaming entry box, but changing the name there doesn't seem to stick.

I vaguely recall seeing something about this in another post, so sorry if this is a duplicate.

This is the Rename found in the File Formats dialog, correct? If so, yes, this is a known issue but thanks for the report.
