Empty workspace on startup of folder compare

Saw a related [1] post about this, but I wanted to provide more details.

Using Cirrus build 443 on linux, sometimes (not always) I get a blank compare window when trying to diff two folders. Thought it might be related to file permissions (eg., one or more folders are readonly), but it happens even when I have group-write perms set.

Then, I try to refresh, and get an error message [2]. While capturing that message, I get a second one [3]. Trying to reload by clicking in a dir field and hitting enter, I get a third one [4].
