View Full Version : Erasing BC license

I had the nasty experience that I moved my personal BC license to my work pc for a while and then when I was finished with it there, looked for a way to remove the license, didn't find one and finally uninstalled BC expecting it to destroy the license records. No. I later installed BC again, expecting to have to re-enter the license. No. It came up as fully registered. So my license key stayed resident in the pc even though I'd uninstalled the app. (Fortunately a short while later the entire hdd was scrubbed.) I would have expected BC to remember that it had been installed for purposes of stopping people un- and re-installing BC to clear the trial-license record, but if I move my license from my home pc to another one temporarily, I don't want my license lingering on that other computer after I leave. BC allows you to reload the license with another (valid) one, but doesn't allow you to blank the existing license. What can I do to erase my license?
Just reemphasizing: I want to erase my license off a pc, not the install history (I'm not trying to eliminate the trail period expiry).

You can clear your license out by deleting
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Scooter Software
from the registry.
You can run BC in single directory mode if you want to use it temporarily on a system. Copy the BC2.exe to a directory, create a BC2.key file, paste your license into it, and create a BC2.xml file to store your BC settings. This will allow BC to run without creating any registry entries.

excellent ... thanks. hope you guys are thinking about 3-way compares (usage eg: root, vers1, vers2). will browse the archive to see if anyone has chatted about this.
cheers

Three way file comparison is something we're working on for version 3. Three way folder comparison is on the wish list.

Would that mean a fee to upgrade from BC2 to BC3?
That would not be entirely unwelcome. I have 3 registered sharewares - BC2, TextPad and WinZip - and don't regret paying for any of them. BC2 is a "daily use" tool for me.

BC3 should be a free upgrade for users who purchased version 2 in the 12 months previous to the release of v3.
If I purchase BC2, and then BC 3.0 comes out 364 days later, I would be eligible to get 3.0 for free. But would I still be eligible to get the 3.x minor updates for free?
