View Full Version : Large vs. Small file compare?

I wanted to report what I see as a bug in "compare two files". I have one larger list of policies number (about 4500) and a slightly smaller list of policies numbers (about 3500). The goal is to see which ones exist in one list or the other. There should be no "differences" only orphans on one side or the other. Speaking of orphans the file comparison "view" tab doesn't have a show orphan option? like the folder comparison does. Extra info: The file length in both files is 10 characters and both are sorted by the entire 10 characters. Thanks in advance for the reply.

Are the matching policy numbers sorted in the same order? If they aren't you might have better luck comparing the files using our Data View plugin. It has the ability to sort order of lines for matching. It only works with a registered copy of BC.
You can download it from: http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php?c=v2plugins
I will add filtering for orphan lines to the wish list.

Another option if you only want exact matches in the policy numbers is to set "Never align mismatches" in the Alignment tab of the rule options.
If you set "View|Just Differences" along with never align mismatches it should only display orphan policy numbers.

One more update. Craig corrected me that as of 2.2 we have orphan filtering.
To use orphan filtering right click on the Tool Bar and select Component Mode. Then make sure just left and right orphans are selected.

Thank you very much for the info. Between the Data Viewer and setting the component option on it works as expected.
Rick.
