I would like to be able to compare:

1) .iso cd-rom images
2) and also floppy disk images
3) .rar compressed files
4) self extracting compressed files

the point 4 has already been asked for, and You said to add the .exe suffix to compressed files. Instead, I would like a plug in that can understand whe a .exe file is a compressed one, and consideres it as a folder.

Thank You

Thank you for the suggestions.
I will add them to the wish list.

For comparing the contents of .iso and other images there is software that allows you to mount them as a new drive. Just google for "Iso Buster". Iso Buster understands a lot of CD ROM formats.

If your disk images contain just the bytes as they are on the disk, (i.e. no additional headers) you can use CrossCrypt (http://www.scherrer.cc/crypt/) . It is actually meant to encrypt file systems (Hard Drives as well as CD ROMs), but if you omit the compression parameter, you can use it for ordinary .iso files, and disk images (FAT, NTFS, ...). Just say:<ul type="square"> filedisk /mount MyDisk.iso /cd g:[/list] and you have a new drive g: with the contents of MyDisk.iso.
(Yes, it's a command line tool, but who cares, and there's also a GUI wrapper for it...)

I wish Beyond Compare can compare a directory tree with a
compressed zip/rar file.

Typically, we have a few experimental trees that are zipped
due to limitation of disk space. If this feature is in BC,
I'll be able to merge code from a zipped file to current
tree.

This will make my life easier

BC doesn't support .rar files, although read-only support for .rar is on our wish list.

BC supports comparison and merging of files in .zips. You should be able to double click on a .zip file to expand it as a folder, or load it as a base folder for comparison.

If .zip files aren't expanding when you click on them, you might need to make sure *.zip is listed in the archive associations in the General section of Tools|Options.
